CCRP Congratulates Prof. Denise Eldemire-Shearer on Receiving UWI Pelican Award

CCRP Chair, Professor Denise Eldemire-Shearer receives the UWI Pelican Award at a presentation ceremony at the Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre on July 17.

 

The Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP) has congratulated the organization’s chair, Professor Denise Eldemire Shearer on receiving the prestigious UWI Pelican Award.

 

Professor Eldemire-Shearer, a Public Health Specialist, was among three recipients of the awards which were presented at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre on Thursday, July 17. The other recipients are Dr. Blossom Anglin-Brown, Clinical Director of the University Health Services and Professor Archibald McDonald, Pro Vice Chancellor and Principal of the Mona Campus.

 

In congratulating Professor Eldemire-Shearer, Jean Lowrie-Chin, Founder and CEO of CCRP, expressed joy at the recognition of the work of one whom she says has devoted her life and work to the cause of ageing and the elderly. “Prof. Eldemire-Shearer has made such an invaluable contribution to the elderly in particular in this country, and we are really proud that her work has been recognized by her colleague graduates of UWI, ” she said.

 

The Pelican Award is presented to a graduate of the University of the West Indies who has excelled in his or her chosen field, or an individual who has contributed significantly to the development of the University, or has made an outstanding contribution to Jamaica, the Caribbean Region or the world at large.
