CCRP Jamaica 50 Living Legacy Awards

CCRP started the year with a bang, hosting one of the first major events to mark Jamaica 50 with our high profile Living Legacy Awards on February 8. A total of 62 senior nation builders were honoured at a gala function at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Their contributions were so inspiring that both an electronic and a traditional book are being produced, using our citations summarizing their diverse achievements.

St. Patrick’s Day

Over 100 members enjoyed an afternoon of Irish cheer, Jamaican fun and valuable information, as Digicel joined the CCRP on March 17 for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at our headquarters. This was the CCRP’s second St. Patrick’s Day celebration, and Digicel provided sponsorship for both. Its then CEO for Jamaica, Mark Linehan, born on St. Patrick’s Day, was serenaded by seniors at the event.

Not only did Digicel sponsor the CCRP St. Patrick’s Day celebration last Saturday, but Digicel Jamaica CEO Mark Linehan took time out to celebrate with CCRP members. This was a double celebration for Mark as it was also his birthday! He is seen here with member Irene Walter.

National Centenarians' Day

CCRP joined the National Council for Senior Citizens’ (NCSC) to honour 103 year old community leader Samuel Green, for Jamaica’s National Centenarian’s Day, May 20. The function took place at his home in Duhaney Park when our Caring Committee made a special presentation to him. Mr. Green, who declares the simple secret to long life is “eat well, sleep well, no stress”, is well known and much loved in Duhaney Park, where he has lived for the past 57 years.

CCRP members and friends enjoyed a happy get-together on September 30, sponsored by BCIC. Venue was The Deck in New Kingston. CCRP along with the National Council for Senior Citizens (NRSC) staged a retro fashion show, and the seniors group “Recycled Teenagers” presented amazing dance items.
